The head of the Public Works parliamentary committee, Mohamad Kabbani, declared after a meeting of his committee today that oil and gas may also be found inland.  He said that that studies that were carried out on inland oil exploration in Lebanon some 40 or 50 years ago are missing, most likely stolen. Some senior employees of the ministry of public works, “helped themselves to the valuable documents and treated them as their personal property,” said Kabbani. He said that he had asked the Ministry of Energy and Water to contact the companies that prepared those studies, and it seems that some of them maintain a relationship with the government and are preparing studies to explore the offshore potential in oil and gas, in order to obtain reproductions of the earlier studies. Kabbani said that he hoped that the UN would help in the demarcation of the sea borders with Israel in order to allow it to make use of its potential oil and gas wealth.
