5th place in MENA in Innovation Index
Lebanon included in the report for the first time, scores 37 out of 100

July 6, 2011- Lebanon ranked 5th out of 15 MENA countries and 49th out of 125 countries globally in the Global Innovation Index 2011 report released by INSEAD.

The report, which included Lebanon for the first time, ranked the country 7th among upper-middle income countries with a score of 37.11 over 100. Qatar and the UAE ranked first and second in the region, with scores of 47.74 and 41.99, respectively.

The GII is the simple average of the Innovation Input Sub-Index and the Innovation Output Sub-Index. The Innovation Input Sub-Index includes five pillars: Institutions, Human capital and research, Infrastructure, Market sophistication and Business Sophistication. Lebanon ranked 8th in the MENA region and 57th globally in the input sub-index.

The Innovation Output Sub-Index is composed of two pillars: Scientific outputs and Creative outputs. Lebanon ranked 3rd in the MENA region and 41st globally in the output sub-index.
