Michel Accad confirmed as CEO

Former Minister of Finance Raya Haffar El Hassan has been elected Chairperson of the board of directors of Bankmed.

“Her experience in working under tough conditions, in addition to her thorough knowledge of Bankmed will allow her to play an effective role in directing the management of the bank in this delicate period,” read a statement from the bank.

El Hassan, who was also a Minister of the Interior and Municipalities, and Chairperson of the Tripoli Special Economic Zone, had also served, as independent member, on various boards of directors of the Bankmed Group entities since 2011.

El Hassan holds a Bachelor degree in Business Administration from the American University of Beirut (AUB) and a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from George Washington University, in addition to various honorary doctorate degrees.

The bank’s board has also confirmed Michel Accad’s position as CEO, which he had assumed after his predecessor’s appointment as Minister of Economy and Trade in early 2019. He is a 27 year veteran of Citibank, the Arab Bank, and other Gulf-based banking institutions where he held a CEO position for over ten years. He holds a Bachelor degree in Business Administration from the AUB, and an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin.
