A project to rehabilitate and expand the public hospital in Baabda will be funded through a $4 million donation from Italy.

Farid Sabbagh, General Director at Baabda Hospital said: “This project is the second phase of the hospital’s rehabilitation. The first phase was funded by the Islamic Development Bank and will be finalized in one month.”

The hospital is currently operating with 50 beds. This number will be raised to 120 after the rehabilitation is completed, said Sabbagh.

The building will be restructured and anti-quake infrastructure will be installed, said Sabbagh. New medical equipment and machines will be purchased.

The Council for Development and Reconstruction (CDR) has invited firms to bid for the project. The bid is only open for Italian contractors.
