The Basil Fuleihan Institute of Finance launched a new public procurement certification program from the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) in the UK. The new certification is part of the $615,000 Capacity Building in Public Procurement (CBPP) project funded by the Italian Cooperation Office.

The institute will help 170 public procurement employees and specialists enhance their knowledge and skills. “These courses are a major step in implementing a medium-term strategy to develop capacity in government procurement,” said Lamia Bsat, Director of the Institute.

The CBPP program is part of a larger commitment by the Italian government to improve the efficiency of public administrations.

Public procurement is considered a main tool for budget execution and a core element of resource management reform that guarantee better value for money. “The project will save the State Treasury large sums of money thanks to the adoption of correct methodologies,” said Mohammad Safadi, Minister of Finance.
