The European Union launched two projects aimed at enhancing civil society organizations’ role in local development and poverty reduction. These projects are funded in the framework of the EU Civil Society Facility (CSF) whose global objective is to help civil society organizations in EU partner countries to fight poverty, to enhance local development and to promote the rule of law.

The two projects, which were selected in the framework of a call for proposals, will be
funded with a total amount of $685,000. They were presented by the two following NGOs: Movimiento por la paz, el desarme y la libertad (MPDL - Movement for Peace). This NGO will implement a project focusing on ensuring better quality of life for people with disabilities and their families in the Beqaa valley through improving their access to services and enhancing their social inclusion. The second NGO, Institute for University Cooperation (ICU), will implement a project that will help reduce the impact of the Syrian crisis on the Lebanese host communities and vulnerable populations through the strengthening of the Association of Cooperatives in Deir el Ahmar (in the Beqaa).
