Tripoli Akkar road near completion

The third section of Tripoli’s West Ring Road is set for completion at the end of the year. The six-kilometer long road goes from south of the al-Mina roundabout to Beddawi.

The third of four sections, valued at $10 million, is made of a one-kilometer long bridge over the highway, starting from al-Mina. The construction of two more kilometers is the final section of the project expected to be delivered by the middle of next year.

The West Ring Road includes three traffic lanes going in two directions. The works include the construction of seven vehicular bridges in al-Mina, Port, Abou Ali River, Beddawi, Taatour, Tripoli Boulevard, and Wadi El-Kinz. Pedestrian bridges will also be built all across the highway.

“The most important part of the project is the one we are finishing now,” said Ramzi Feldawi, Transport Engineer at the Council for Development and Reconstruction, which is overseeing the project’s execution. The project was due this year but security clashes delayed the finalization of the last section.

The West Ring Road costs a total of $46 million, most of which is funded by the Treasury. The rest of the funds are provided by the European Investment Bank (EIB).

The contractor is Geneco and the consultant is a joint venture between Dar al-Handasah Nazih Taleb and Associates and Mott Macdonald.
