Abdul Wahab Island was opened by the Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA) on Sunday.

Rehabilitation works on the island were funded by MoSA in cooperation with the Italian Embassy, the Italian Cooperation Office, as well as donors from several sectors. Rachid Derbas, Minister of Social Affairs said that cost of rehabilitation is $500,000.

Abdul Wahab is the nearest island to the Port of Tripoli. A bridge was built previously between the port and the island.

The island measures 8,000 square meters. It includes green spaces, a special section for migrating birds, as well as deer. The island is open to the public, free of charge.

Derbas said that this island will contribute to reviving tourism, especially after the unstable security situation Tripoli recently experienced.
