The Beirut Rafic Hariri International Airport has issued a circular prohibiting the entry of any fruits and vegetables, on board in bags.

The notice was made to all airlines operating out of the airport, following a Ministry of Agriculture circular announcing its efforts to combat the fruit fly epidemic spreading across the country.

Minister of Agriculture, Akram Chehayeb, asked the General Directorate of Aviation that “all appropriate precautions be taken at the airport to prevent the entry of flies born in fruits and vegetables that may be carried by passengers arriving from other countries."
