Construction works on Al Nahda Hospital in Barja, Chouf, will start within months. It will be ready to start operating in 2018.

Investment in the hospital is estimated at $10 million, including the cost of the land. It will have a total built-up area of 1,000 square meters and will comprise three floors and 23 beds.

Mounir Chebbo, a medical doctor and major shareholder, gained a license from the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) this month to establish the hospital.

He said that the hospital will provide general medical services, including emergency care, surgery and intensive care rooms, as well as a radiology department and laboratories. There is a shortage of hospitals in this region, according to Chebbo, where the nearest are in Saida and Sibline.

Chebbo will handle the medical management of the hospital, which will be built and equipped according to high standards, he said.

The hospital will create around 70 administrative jobs and will require at least 20 physicians.

Chebbo said that he will assign a consultancy company to draft the environmental studies required by the MOPH before starting construction works.
