The Council for Development and Reconstruction (CDR) will initiate a complete overhaul of Charles Helou Station for Travel and Land Transport. The CDR will also be responsible for the initial study and the implementation of the process. The project was initiated by Beirut Municipality and approved by the Council of Ministers last week.

The plan includes the renovation of the whole building. The ground floor will continue to be used as a public transportation hub for internal and external destinations. The top three floors will be used as a parking lot for visitors to the nearby areas, according to Mohamad Said Fatha, Councilor at Beirut Municipality.

A source at CDR said that Beirut Municipality will finance the study, and the proposal requests will start in the next three months.

The station suffers from structural damage and requires civil restoration works. A request for tenders is expected after six months.
