Work on building a public parking lot below the Mufti Hassan Khaled Public Park project in Talet Al Khayat has started.

The project aims to build a parking lot of four underground levels which will accommodate 440 cars, in addition to 69 above ground parking areas. The park will undergo a rehabilitation process, as the uprooted trees will be replanted, according to the Beirut Municipality.

The demolition work in the park commenced last week.

Supervised by the Council of Development and Reconstruction (CDR), the project will finish in two years. The cost of the project is $8 million.

According to Jamal Itani, Mayor of Beirut, a private company will be in charge of the administration of the public parking for the benefit of the municipality. The pricing will be in accordance with the price of parking in Beirut.

The Municipality will launch similar projects in Ashrafieh and Ramlet Al-Bayda. These projects are part of the municipality’s plan to build several public parking buildings that can accommodate 1,850 cars in total.
