Occupancy at 57 percent in May
Beirut Hotels’ occupancy sees yearly drop of 12 percentage points

July 7, 2011- Hotels in Beirut saw an occupancy rate of 57 percent during May 2011, according to figures released by Deloitte and STR Global. The city’s occupancy rate saw a yearly drop of 12 percentage points compared to 69 percent during the same period in 2010.

Beirut’s Revenue per Available Room (RevPAR) saw a yearly decline of 26.6 percent to $108 during May 2011. RevPAR for May 2010 was $140.

Minister of Tourism Fadi Abboud previously announced that the country had lost 18 percent of Arab tourists during the first five months of the year. But he said occupancy rates will likely grow throughout the rest of the summer. Occupancy rates in July are expected to hover at around 70 percent in Beirut and 50 percent in Jounieh and the coastline.
