Royal Gourmet, local processor of salmon, swordfish, halibut, and haddock fish, opened a 6,000 square meter factory in Kfarchima, last month. The new building also includes a retail department.
Karim Araaji, General Manager and major shareholder said: “The expansion will allow us to double production and meet increasing demand in local and regional markets.”
The daily production capacity of the new factory is 1.5 tons. Araaji said the facility is operating at half its capacity, using 2,000 m2 of the available space, but the rest of the factory has been designated for future use.
Investment in the new facility neared $5 million including the land. The process depends on manual work, and has created ten jobs. The machinery was imported from Germany.
Araaji said that the ISO and HACCP certifications required the creations of new departments for quality control, quality assurance, and storage.
Royal Gourmet exports 20 percent of its production to African and Gulf countries.
The company also has a retail shop in Saifi village.
