A workshop between the Ministry of Industry (MoI) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) was held on February 13, to facilitate local industry access to UN agency procurement.
“We have to benefit from the budget of $1 billion that the United Nations spends every year to the Syrian refugees,” said Vrej Sabounjiian, the Minister of Industry.
Six international organizations: UNRWA, UNHCR, WFP, UNICEF, UNDP, and UNIDO, have exposed the type of procurement and services that they need. The MoI and UNIDO will choose the SMEs after proper tenders and help them to finalize their applications. “A focal point office will be launched in order to facilitate the cooperation between the local industries and the UN agencies,” said Sabounjian. Guidelines are published on each agency’s website in order to assist in the online application process. “We will publish tenders in newspapers in order to open doors to the competition among all industries,” said Narayan Paudel, Supply officer at UNHCR.
Various categories of goods and services are required: industrial goods, It equipment, power generators, technical consultancy, agro-foods, solar energy, among others.
“Another workshop will be held soon in order to discuss the problems that industries might face during the application of the agreement,” said Sabounjian.
