MoE project to improve environmental commitment
Share
The Ministry of Environment (MoE) launched on September 1 a financial and technical support program for industrial companies. The program will be implemented in collaboration with United Nations Development Programme, The Central Bank, and commercial banks.
The program aims at setting a mechanism for environmental commitment in industrial institutions. This will be done by providing subsidized loans and technical support for projects that limit industrial pollution.
“The subsidized loans have low interests and could be without interest, in some cases,” said Bassam Sabbagh, Head of Urban Environment Department.
The Italian government and the European Union allocated one million USD for this project.
“All industrialists who need to improve their environmental situation may benefit from this program,” said Sabbagh . For instance, a factory that wants to treat its liquid wastes may benefit from this project by purchasing a refinery station.
UNDP will conduct the required studies and training sessions for industrial companies.
