There is consensus among the members of the board of directors of the Association of Banks (ABL) that Salim Sfeir take the helm of ABL for the next term, said Joseph Torbey, the incumbent Chairman of ABL.
The ABL board members rotate the post of chairman among themselves and they have agreed that Sfeir will hold this position for the coming term, Torbey said.
Sfeir is currently a member of ABL’s board of directors. He has been Chairman and CEO of Bank of Beirut since 1993.
Torbey said that ABL is currently in a state of concord and that its general assembly will meet on June 29 to elect the new chairman.
Torbey has chaired ABL for six terms: in 2001-2003, 2003-2005, 2009-2011, 2011-2013, 2015-2017, and 2017-2019. He is currently Chairman of Credit Libanais. This will be the first time Sfeir is elected to the position.
